The Department of Transportation requires all commercially licensed drivers to get DOT physicals to ensure they are healthy enough to drive a commercial vehicle safely.

Any commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver must first pass a DOT physical. The FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) operates within the DOT and sets the requirements for the DOT physical, which includes a hearing test, vision exam and more. An FMCSA-Certified Medical Examiner must conduct the physical test.
